Best Upcoming Games

Despite all the naysayers, PC gaming remains as popular as ever. The controls offered by computers – the keyboard and the mouse – are ideal for FPS games which require high precision, MMORPGs which offer a large number of skills, RPGs with complex interfaces, various real-time and turn-based strategy games, and so on. Besides that, PC is the most open platform, and the easiest one to work with if you’re an indie game designer.

While the biggest gaming titles these days usually run on several platforms, there still are many great PC exclusive games coming out every year. We’ve made a list of the best upcoming PC games in 2012 and beyond:
Diablo III (Action RPG)Diablo III is an action RPG by Blizzard, and a sequel to the cult classic Diablo II. Its release is anticipated in the year 2012. The game will feature impressive graphics, semi-destructible environments (with its own physics engine for that purpose) and new classes. Of the old DII classes, only the Barbarian will be making a comeback; new ones include the Witch Doctor, the Wizard, the Demon Hunter and the Monk. Despite being released more than 10 years after its predecessor, Diablo III should retain the signature gameplay of the Diablo series, namely the intense, fast-paced combat and endless armies of the dark. Diablo III is definitely going to be one of the biggest RPGs to come out in 2011 (2012 if it’s delayed).

Guild Wars 2 (MMORPG) MMORPGs remain a prerogative of the PC platform. The biggest of them is, of course, World of Warcraft. Many MMO games tried to challenge it and failed. Could it be that Guild Wars 2 will be the one to take the throne from WoW? I think it has a fair chance, mainly because the developers at ArenaNet aren’t afraid to innovate. Unlike the first Guild Wars which was mostly instanced, the sequel will have a persistent world. GW2 will offer a lot of unique features, such as the Dynamic Events: an improved version of quests which solves problems like competing with other players for the quest mob kill. The class roles are reinvented – there won’t be a dedicated healer, but each class will have a healing skill of its own.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm (RTS)Starcraft is one of the Blizzard’s two biggest and most popular franchises, so the release of the Heart of the Swarm expansion pack is a pretty big deal. This game lets the players experience the stunning stort of the zerg race, continuing the plot after the events in the Wings of Liberty from zerg perspective. Priced as an expansion, this title is a great treat for any PC gamer and strategy fan. Besides the signle-player campaign, HotS also makes some changes to the multiplayer balance, and adds new units.

Some exclusive PC games have already been released this year. We think that they still deserve a mention, so if you missed them before, check them out. These titles will be removed from our list once a few months pass after their release date.

Star Wars: The Old Republic (MMORPG) When Bioware, a company known for its roleplaying games with amazing storylines, says they want to make an MMORPG, you know it’s going to be something extraordinary. Let’s face it – most MMORPGs are more about the grind, getting the best item, and owning people with your uber max level character. But what happens if an MMO had the storyline, the character development and the cutscenes that would rival those of a single-player RPG? The answer is SWtOR. Now that the game is launched, we can see that it’s very popular both among gamers and Star Wars fans thanks to its setting and unique features.
